Tutorial
It's easy to transfer video files to play on your PlayStation Portable.
1. Preparing you Memory Stick Duo™
1.1
If you're using the black Memory Stick Duo™ that accompanied your PSP, you are ready to download
the one- time Setup file. If you're using another Memory Stick™,
you'll need to format it on the PSP, then download the one-time Setup file.
1.2
You can format any size Memory Stick Duo™ in the Sony PSP by doing this:
To format your Memory Stick Duo™, insert it into the slot on the side of the PSP.
- Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
- Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
- Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
- The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds.
Once formatting is complete, the PSP will display "Format completed."
1.3
Now you're ready to download and install the Setup file. Download the Setup File.
Next, double-click the Setup file to view its contents.
Right-click the folder MP_ROOT and select Extract to save the folder to your Desktop.
The MP_ROOT folder contains the proper PSP file directory and your first video file.
(!) Please note: formatting will overwrite files and directories on your Memory Stick Duo™. If you wish to keep any files from your Memory Stick, copy them elsewhere on your PC before formatting.
2. Transfering Movie Files
2.1
Once you've formatted your Memory Stick™ and downloaded
the Setup file, you're ready to create your PSP video directory
and play your first video.
You can transfer the files using a USB cable or Memory Stick
Reader.
2.2.1 - USB Cable
Connect your PSP to your computer using your USB-A to Mini-
B cable.
Turn the PSP on, then scroll to select Settings.
Then select USB Connection by pressing the X button.
Now look at your PC – a new drive will appear, called
Removable Disk.
Copy the MP_ROOT folder to the Removable Disk directory.
2.2.2 - Memory Stick Reader
Insert your Memory Stick™ into your Memory Stick Reader™ or
Memory Stick-compatible computer.
Next, copy the MP_ROOT folder to your Memory Stick
directory.
Then remove the Memory Stick and insert it into the slot on
the side of the PSP.
3. Video Playback
3.1
Now you're ready to enjoy your video file!
Select Video on the PSP, then scroll to select the video you'd
like to watch. Press the X button.
While the video is playing, adjust your screen settings by
pressing the Triangle button.
Select Screen Mode, then press the X button to toggle views.
When you're done, press the Triangle button to exit the screen
settings menu.
3.2
New clips can be downloaded and played on the PSP by
placing them in a special folder we've already created in the
setup process.
To download a new video, click Download and save the file to
your Desktop or other directory. Then unzip this file to find
the two files that make up your movie. There's the video file
itself, ending in . MP4, and the thumbnail icon, ending in .THM.
To transfer your new video, look inside the PSP's MP_ROOT
folder to find the special folder with the name:
"100MNV01". That's where the two files go!
Copy the files to this folder and they will show up on your PSP.
If you run out of space, you'll have to store some of your old
videos elsewhere before transferring the new files.
